'06 MLB Preview - Playoffs & Awards

Playoffs & Awards

Look – I admit that trying to predict the Major League Baseball Playoffs before the season even starts is ludicrous. If I get two of the four teams in each league correct, I’ll be thrilled. And if I make it through next weekend (when I have to spend three days with all of my Mets-fan friends who begged me not to pick them to win the National League), I’ll be stunned.

And yet, with all of that said, here we go…

American League East

Red Sox (94-68)

American League Central

White Sox (97-65)

American League West

Angels (93-69)

American League Wild Card

Cleveland (94-68)

National League East

Mets (93-69)

National League Central

Cardinals (96-66)

National League West

Padres (87-75)

National League Wild Card

Braves (88-74)

National League Division Series:

Cardinals over Braves

Mets over Padres

American League Division Series:

Red Sox over Indians

White Sox over Angels

National League

Championship Series:

Mets over Cardinals

American League

Championship Series:

White Sox over Red Sox

World Series:

White Sox over Mets

The White Sox have the best overall rotation. They have a very solid bullpen. And their starting lineup is scary as hell. As long as they can stay healthy, they are the best team in baseball – hands down. And for as much as the Mets have spent gobs and gobs of money trying to make themselves into a World Series champion, I just don’t think they have enough pitching to beat the best lineups in the American League. If they can make it to the series and play a streaky team like the Indians or Angels, they’ve got a shot. But if it’s the White Sox, Red Sox, or Yankees, I think the Commissioner’s trophy will stay in the American League for one more year.

Awards Predictions

Most of these predictions are pretty self-explanatory. The dark horses with quotes around them mean that I wanted to put three choices, but I decided to make one of them a “Dark Horse”, even though they’re probably one of the favorites.

Funny enough, my NL Home Run Champ this year is almost exactly the same as last year.

I was wrong then too…
