Quick Thoughts after the early games in Week 1…

n Jake Plummer will not be the starting quarterback in November. In fact, he might be gone early in October.

n The Jets could actually be dangerous, if they ever get a kicker.

n The Patriots are not as good as I thought they were. No reason that the Bills should have been that close. Buffalo tried to give the game away three different times in the first half, and New England just refused to take it.

n But… I’m really going to like watching Laurence Maroney for the next five years…

n It’s going to be a long, long year in Cleveland and Tampa Bay

n If Trent Green is out for any long period of time, all those people who took Larry Johnson #1 in their fantasy drafts are going to be looking to unload him, and quick. Damon Huard is not the answer for a team that needs a serious threat at QB to be successful. Billy VOlek should be a Chief within three days.

n Damn, the Bengals look good.

n For that matter, so does the Falcons’ defense. You heard it here firstAtlanta’s D is N-A-S-T-Y…

n I can’t tell if I really was too hard on Philadelphia or if Houston is just that bad.

n I can tell you this – The St. Louis Rams are a team to be reckoned with. Yes, Simmons took over the reigns of their bandwagon last week. I’m hoping there’s still room on the bus, because with Seattle getting shut down by the Lions today, the NFC West is WIDE open…

n Going back to the top of the list… Denver can still win the AFC West by default, but if the Chargers can put together even a serviceable season (like, 10-6 or so), the Broncos aren’t guaranteed anything.

n Baltimore is a playoff team. Period. 11-5 won’t take over the AFC North, but it’s enough to take a Wild Card spot away from the Miami Dolphins.

Back tomorrow with thoughts on late games, including the Manning Matchup that everyone’s talking about, but no one really cares about.

Lata.
