Quick Thoughts - June 16th

Quick Thoughts while organizing a ride to Logan Airport…

n The Fisk Foul Pole… whatever.

n Was it just me, or did anybody else find it ironic that all of the “Queer Eye” guys wore #5 Red Sox uniforms? Just throwing it out there…

n These NBA Finals are absolutely brutal. It’s so bad that “Dancing With The Stars” – a reality show about really bad celebrity ballroom dancing, is getting higher ratings than basketball. What does that say about the state of the NBA? They’re heading right for a labor dispute at a point when interest in the sport is at just about its lowest point in the last 30 years. Boy… that sounds kinda familiar…

n Speaking of the NHL, what happened to this “resolution” they were supposed to have reached? Are we going to get hockey or not? Personally, I’m a bigger NHL fan than NBA, so I wouldn’t mind at all if I were watching Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals right now instead of Game 3 of the NBA Finals…

n Hmmm… so this weekend brought us the disgraceful exit of Mike Tyson, and the shameless return of Phil Jackson… But when you combine the two, we really ended up with the vindication of Mike Jackson! Well, I suppose that clears everything up… (Yes, I’m going straight to hell…)

n 11 Weeks until NFL Opening Night – is anybody else stocking up on beer and chips already? (Yeah, like I don’t have a large enough supply of both on hand at all times…)

n I’ve decided to quit playing online poker until after the WSOP, simply because the style of play is so vastly different that I want enough time to re-learn how to play face-to-face. Please, don’t entice me…

n However, if you’re holding a tournament in the Greater Boston/Providence/NYC area anytime soon, feel free to let me know…

n Actually got an e-mail yesterday telling me exactly when I start Main Event play in Vegas - Saturday, July 9th. That actually is a disadvantage, since I’m flying out on the 6th. I know myself, and I’m sure I’ll spend the 7th and 8th playing small tournaments in various casinos. As long as I don’t absorb any bad beats, I should be able to go into the Main Event with my head on straight…

n I’ll try to update this site everyday of the Main Event for as long as I’m around. If I’m still playing on the 14th (The Thursday), I invite any and all of you to fly out and show your support. Please. Seriously – I don’t want to be the guy who wins a hand on national TV and gets the standard fan “golf clap”; I want to be the one with 50 of his closest friends/family/random Internet readers jumping up and down in the audience and give up big-time chest bumps.

n Hmmm… the U.S. Open starts today? Eh, call me at about 4PM Saturday, when things start to matter…

n Does anybody else think that the summer “Blockbuster” season is off to a mighty slow start? I just found out that the new Batman movie opened – Yesterday! – and yet I really couldn’t be less interested. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m tired of seeing retreads of old movies and remakes of crappy TV shows. I’m fully expecting “Facts of Life – The Movie” by about 2008…

n Now, if they ever came out with “The Simpsons – The Movie”, there’s about a 70% chance that I’d be camping out for tickets at least a week in advance… (Hell, I might just do that for the short shorts and bikini shots of Jessica Simpson in “The Dukes of hazard” this summer…)

And finally… My webhost has graciously agreed to allow me to post up a movie I created a long time ago while bored. Unfortunately, they made me post it in 4 small clips. So here’s the deal – click here, and DOWNLOAD, don’t stream, the clips and shoot me some feedback. I’ll warn you, if you’re epileptic, don’t watch it. And if you’re a Yankees fan, you’re probably going to love the first minute and most of clip 2. And that’s about it…

Yes, I got bored and synched some of the music to match certain things in the video. And the radio broadcast was absolutely a pain in my ass. And the audio is much better on the DVD version (Yes, I made a DVD version. I’m a movie geek – get over it.) Anyway, enjoy.

Quote of the Week:

During WEEI’s Big Show (2-6PM EST) earlier this week…

Larry Johnson: “Well, at least now Nomar has slipped to #2 at shortstop in the National League All-Star voting…”

Sean McAdam: “Yeah, well that might have something to do with him not having a hit in over two months…”

Lata.
